Philip Ferrante Organizes Relief on Staten Island following Sandy's Destruction
Meeting the Needs of a Community
Philip Ferrante, President of Certified Flyers and lifelong resident of Staten Island, sprung into action following Sandy's passage to help neighbor's in distress. It quickly became apparent that whole communities were devastated by the storm and a much larger effort was needed.
Phil loaded his van with supplies and rallied neighbors to begin helping those in need. The community responded and soon a relief effort was underway. As the needs grew, Phil got the word out and Staten Islanders began sending in essential items to keep those hardest hit going. Folding tables were brought out by residents and items sorted and organized for distribution.
Phil and his crew went from door to door handing out water, blankets, food and items needed by moms with young children. Staten Island may be the "forgotten borough" but Phil made sure no one in the community was forgotten.
For three days, the BBC followed Phil as he managed the emergency without federal or state assistance.
